SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - The City of Sheboygan’s Public Protection and Safety Committee has recommended lifting a hiring freeze enabling the Fire Department to replace recently retired personnel.
Despite getting contentious at times, the Committee did recommend the resolution to hire four firefighter/paramedics be sent on to the City Council. Prior to its passage, the debate again centered on the impact the City’s ambulance operation has had and whether or not a fire station should be closed. It was the prospect of closing a station, specifically the Southside station, that elicited the strongest reaction from Alderman Eric Rindfleisch.
The Council will vote to formally lift the hiring freeze at Monday’s Common Council meeting.
Alderman Eric Rindfleisch says closing the Southside fire station will have a huge impact.
