MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Wisconsin hunters could see more deer in the woods, because of what the state Natural Resources Board did Tuesday. The panel increased deer population goals in 43 management zones. That was after hunters complained last November that the DNR’s strategies to control the deer herd had made it so thin, the sport was put in jeopardy.

Last October, the DNR had proposed population increases in only 13 zones. And legislators – feeling the heat from the hunters – had talked about rejecting the plan if it wasn’t changed. The new goals call for an extra 60,000 deer in the woods. The numbers will be used in setting the rules for this fall’s deer hunting seasons.
